Madison County, Illinois House District was a Representative district in the Illinois House of Representatives located within Madison County from 1818 to 1848. The district was last represented by Democrat William Martin and Whigs Curtis Blakeman, Jr. and William F. D'Wolf from December 7, 1846 to January 1, 1849. The district changed shape multiple times and was temporarily abolished over its lifetime. The district was replaced by Illinois's 20th House of Representatives district in 1849.

Representative district history

The district was first formed after the ratification of the 1818 Illinois Constitution with 3 Representative seats apportioned to the district. The district boundaries were from Madison County's modern boundaries, all the way to the northern border of the state and west to the Mississippi River border. The 1821 Apportionment Act saw the district's boundaries shrink down to its near-modern boundaries with the same number of apportioned seats. The 1826 Apportionment Act gave Madison County a salient of land north of it and reduced the number of seats apportioned to 2. The formation of Macoupin County split it into two districts with the land originally from Madison County temporarily merging into the Madison County district. The 1831 Apportionment Act saw Madison County have its boundaries reduced back to its 1821 boundaries without Macoupin County. The 1836 Apportionment Act reapportioned 3 Representative seats back. The 1841 Apportionment Act saw no changes made to the district. The district was replaced by Illinois's 20th House of Representatives district with the adoption of the 1848 Illinois Constitution.
