The Begining of Baum

Morten Bau, founder of Baum Guitars, built his first electric guitar in 1989. Back then, Morten Bau had no idea of starting a brand, so instead Morten Bau educated as Art Director in 1998, as he dreamt of working with design and commercial concept developing. The years up until 2015 was spent on designing and building a variety of different guitars. These guitars were either inspired by classic guitar shapes or by own design.

Baum Guitars was founded in 2015. Same year, Morten Bau built four different Leaper model prototypes, respectively Leaper 212, 222, 232 & 242. These had the characteristic Baum headstock, a small solid or semi-hollow body with a different f-hole and a 24.75” scale length. In 2016, the Leaper Tone was designed – this had a bigger body, a longer scale length (25.5”) and a redesigned f-hole compared to the prototypes. These changes became cornerstones within the design of Baum Guitars. Following the Leaper Tone, the Conquer 59 and Conquer 69 was also introduced in 2016. In 2016, Baum Guitars established Goldsound Pickups, i.e. Baum Guitars’ private label of hand-wound pickups made specifically for each Baum guitar and bass. In 2017, Baum Guitars released four new designs: Verge, Backwing, Bluenote and Carve. In 2018, Baum Guitar launched its website and introduced another three models to the market: Leaper Jr., Wingman and Cooper. The Revolt was released in 2019. In 2020, Baum Guitars added the first bass, Nidhogg, to the line-up.

Baum Guitars first public appearance was at the annual Copenhagen Guitar Show in 2017,

where they debuted the Leaper Tone, Conquer 59, Conquer 69 and Verge.

Design[edit]

Characteristics & Construction

Baum instruments share characteristic design elements, e.g one of the three headstock variants, the f-hole, the custom covered Goldsound pickups, the curve and corner on the lower horn. The designs of the instruments derive from a mix of the Scandinavian design style and American Classic cars.

The 3x3 Headstock design is also a unique trademark of Baum Guitars, 2015
