Benjamin Goldberg (born July 14, 1968) is an American orthopedic surgeon, who specializes in shoulder and elbow surgery. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He is known for his being board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthpaedic Surgeons. He is an avid marathon runner. Early life[edit]

Goldberg was born in New York City, New York. His father was an electrical engineer and his mother was a teacher. His family moved to Livingston, New Jersey when he was in first grade


Undergraduate and medical training[edit]

Goldberg was accepted into Northwestern University's six-year Honors Program in Medical Education in 1986. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1990 with distinction and a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1992 with distinction at [[Feinberg School of Medicine]. > His postgraduate training in orthopedic surgery was completed at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center. He trained at Houston Methodist Hospital, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, Texas Children's Hospital, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Ben Taub Hospital, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston, and Shriners Hospital for Children (Houston) in Houston. Goldberg completed additional training in limb deformity correction using the Ilizarov apparatus in Lecco Italy, the AO Foundation. Upon completion of his residency, he obtained additional training in shoulder and elbow surgery at the University of Washington. joint reconstruction,[1] with research emphasis on osteonecrosis and hip replacement in medically co-morbid populations. Goldberg was accepted into Northwestern University's six-year Honors Program in Medical Education in 1986.[2] After undergrad, he worked in radio for six years, before enrolling in Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 1995.[3][4]

Academic and medical career[edit]

Since 1999, Goldberg has been in the Illinois Medical District at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He also treats veterans at Jesse Brown VA hospital. He had previously worked at the original Cook County Hospital which was renamed the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County when the hospital was opened in 2002. He has been awarded the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Student Teaching Excellence Award. He also was awarded by the Teaching Recognition Program for teaching excellence .[5] and the Michael F. Rabb M.D., Jose F. Pulido, M.D. Medical Student Teaching Award for outstanding teaching of medical students in surgery or the surgical subspecialties. He has numerous publications in orthopaedic surgery. [6][7]


Interesting facts[edit]

One of Goldberg’s patients uploaded a video of his surgery (Goldberg was the surgeon) that became one of the most widely viewed medical videos in history. It made numerous television shows including Tosh.0.[8][9] He has met President Obama.

Personal life[edit]

Goldberg lives in Chicago, Illinois, with his wife, Rosie. Goldberg has two children
