Harold Francis Weaver (born 25 September 1917 in San Jose, died 26 April 2017 in Kensington, California) was an American astronomer, known for #########.[1]
Weaver studied at the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in 1940, staying on for doctoral research and for the rest of his career. His PhD, completed in 1942, was supervised by the Swiss-American astronomer Robert Trumpler, who was also the father of Weaver's wife ####, and was an observational project looking at stellar distribution and dust absorption in the Aquila region of the Milky Way.[2]
For this he worked at Mount Wilson Observatory
later work and main career specialism, departmental stuff
He supervised at least ### graduate students, including George Herbig in 19###.[3]
In 1965 he discovered the first astrophysical maser[4]
Weaver retired in 1988 and became professor emeritus, continuing to attend Berkeley regularly for the next 30 years, as an active astronomer into his 90s.[1]
He married in 19###, and at the time of his death had three children, ######.[1]
