Jason Pirozzolo (pronounced [pair-zola]; born November 27, 1976) is an American Sports Medicinephysician, a community leader, a pilot, a professor, and an author.

Pirozzolo began practice in Orlando, Florida in 2006 with Florida Hospital as the Director of Sports Medicine [3][4]. Later, he joined a private practice with Orlando Hand Surgery Associates as the Director of Sports Medicine and Trauma[4]. He was appointed by Governor Charlie Crist to serve as a board member of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, and elected Vice Chairman of the board[1][2][5]. He serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Florida State University College of Medicine[6].

Early life[edit]

Pirozzolo was born in Elmira, New York, a small town in Upstate New York. He is the son of an elementary school teacherand a general contractor. He grew up on 270 acres of farm land in a small house.

Education[edit]

Pirozzolo graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. degree Pre-medicine. Following college, he enrolled inNova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated in 2002. During school, he completed externships inDermatology and emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He later finished his internship and residency (medicine) at Duke University with a fellowship in sports medicine at Ohio State University. He obtained dual board certifications in both family medicine and Sports Medicine. He was credentialled as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Dr. Pirozzolo has also been granted privileges to fly single and multi-engine aircraft by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) since 2005[7].

Career[edit]

====Physician===Dr. Pirozzolo began practice in 2006 as the Director of Sports Medicine for Florida Hospital's urgent care facilities[3]. In 2011 he joined forces with Orlando Hand Surgery Associates as their Director of Sports Medicine and Trauma in downtown Orlando, Florida[4]. Dr. Pirozzolo is also an active member of the Florida Medical Association and serves on theirCouncil on Legislation Board[8]. Pirozzolo has been a volunteer at Shepherd's Hope free clinic since 2010.

====Professor===Pirozzolo was appointed as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Florida State University College of Medicine in 2010[9].

====Community Leader===In 2010, Dr. Pirozzolo was appointed by Governor Charlie Crist to sit on the governing board of the Orlando International Airport, called theGreater Orlando Aviation Authority[10][11][12]. He served on the Orlando executive advisory committee and the economic development advisory committee. In 2012, he was elected unanimously to serve as the Vice Chairman of the board[13]. During his tenure he has committed his effort into raising awareness of the economic development opportunites [14] that exist in theCentral Florida area and the airport[15].

====Author===With his strong interest in sports medicine and wellness, Dr. Pirozzolo has researched and published numerous articles on blood-borne infections in sports medicine[16][17], blood borne infections in professional wrestling[18], as well as a novel environmental decontamination process for the disinfection of MRSA from surfaces in athletic facilities[19].
