Gur Keren[edit]

Gur Arik Keren (born June 12, 1990) is a polymath, a mental calculator, and an artist.

Keren was born in Israel. Before the age of four he had taught himself to read, a phenomenon called hyperlexia. From his early childhood Keren showed signs of an eidetic memory, and can repeat number strings of nine or more digits after only a glance[1]. The abilities which he'd showed from a young age earned him the title prodigy. Through his childhood and teen years, Keren showed a great interest in numbers and developed methods for quick calculations of arithmetics, roots, disassembling the sum of square numbers, converting bases, and more. Most of Keren's calculations are based on rote learning function values.[2][3]

In his teen years, Keren taught himself to write and draw with both hands at the same time until becoming completely ambidextrous. He mostly uses his ambidexterity in arts, and is known for his surreal drawings. The signature (or signatures) on his drawings are the only indication to which hand it was drawn with.[4] Keren's drawings developed over the years from figurative to extremely detailed patterns, mostly done with ink.[5]

After high school, Keren served in the army as a psycho-technical profiler. After his service he began studying physics and mathematics, but after a couple of years decided to work on self development and arts.

Keren is a synesthete. He claims that he have first noticed the phenomenon when he was in high school. For every digit he developed a certain affinity, color, and in some personalities. The same goes for letters, time units, and more mixed senses such as words with smells and tastes, and music in shapes.[6] In addition, his senses are very sensitive and he is hyperosmic.

As of today, Keren is working on art, drawing, mental calculations and new methods, timelapses, abstract strategy games, and school lectures.
