The light party, is a free family orientated community event as an alternative to halloween popular throughout New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom often run by the church. It involves events such as amusement rides, sausage sizzle, face painting, singing and games of chance for prizes. The Light Party lost a lot of its popularity after covid restrictions were put in place.

The aim of the Light Party is to allow parents to have their kids not practise negative behaviour on halloween and disturb people and accept lollies from strangers at night.

Origin

[edit]

The first light party began in New Zealand in 2000 when Wendy Reid wanted to give her children a cheerful and less dreary experience for halloween beginning with her family first and then began inviting other families and eventually the majority of the community participated[1].
