Fazan Ally Munshi[1], known professionally as Yung Fazo, is an American rapper from Long Island, New York.[3] He is currently signed to record labels Capitol Records/UMG and is known for his songs "Adding" with SoFaygo, "Wesson" with Raeusi, and "Ttlwg". His success is often attributed to his music's popularity on social media platform TikTok.[5][2]

Early life

Yung Fazo grew up in Queens, New York where he lived for 4 years before moving relatively closer to the borough. Growing up, he recalls playing basketball and soccer although he mentions not being good at sports. He mentions being a Muslim.[2]

Career

In August 2017, Yung Fazo recorded his first song which he recalls being a diss track against a friend.[2] In 2020, he released his track "Wesson" with fellow rapper Raeusi, which would go on to become one of Yung Fazo's breakthrough tracks. Also in 2020, he released his collaborative mixtape Boys on Mars with fellow rapper Xhulooo.[3] In August 2021, he released his EP Forever Alone (stylized as #frvralone) with appearances from tana, Ka$hdami, and Xhulooo.[5] In January 2022, he appeared on late American rapper PnB Rock's mixtape SoundCloud Daze on the track "I'm Chosen".[6] In July 2022, he released his single "July" with appearances from rappers tana and yvngxchris.[7] In August 2022, he released his single titled "Honest" with an accompanying music video by director DotComNirvan.[8] In October 2022, Canadian rapper and producer Nav, during an interview with Our Generation Music, praised Yung Fazo for breaking boundaries as an artist of Indian descent.[9] In November 2022, he released his debut studio album Me vs Me under Capitol Records/UMG with appearances from rappers tana, Dom Corleo, and Raeusi.[10]

Musical style

Writing for Rap Reviews, Steve Juon describes Yung Fazo in the following manner: "He’s the New York, East coast version of an AutoTune ATL emcee, singing and spitting triple couplets over big bottom bass and syrupy melodies [...]"[5]
