Jehovah's Witnesses
[edit]Take a look at all the feedback given by Levivich over at Talk:Jehovah's Witnesses. Most of it is lead feedback.
Consider using the following as sources (beyond my book collection)
- God's things and Caesar's: Jehovah's Witnesses and political neutrality
- Internment camps
- Literature gap on publications
- Jehovah's Witnesses as Un-Americans? Scriptural Injunctions, Civil Liberties, and Patriotism
- The "World" Concept among Jehovah's Witnesses
- Jehovah's Witnesses and the Empire of the Sun: A Clash of Faith and Religion During World War II
- The Faithful Do Not Yield: Jehovah’s Witnesses in Nazi Camps
- Disciplined Litigation, Vigilant Litigation, and Deformation: Dramatic Organization Change in Jehovah's Witnesses
General thoughts:
- Expand the eschatology section with content about the overlapping generations teaching/prophetic dream about the Anglo-American empire
- Add an LGBT issues section?
- The government interactions section could be much more fleshed out. There was also a ban in New Zealand during the second world war. Content about Singapore should also be added. If stuff gets too detailed, consider adding or creating spinoff articles like Jehovah's Witnesses in Australia/Jehovah's Witnesses in the United States.
- A possible classification section after the lead? This could go into the more complicated terminology and be a place to put all the jargon that's currently in the first sentence. This could also mention the new religious movement/cult descriptors used by some reliable sources.
- The lead should probably make the distinction between the Bible Students and Jehovah's Witnesses clearer.
- There should also be some written content in the article explaining the increase of preaching methods like jw.org, JW Broadcasting, and street witnessing. Explain what a "pioneer" is. Mention the distinction between JW preaching and Mormon preaching (the two are often confused due to similarity of door-to-door preaching methods but JWs don't limit preaching to a "mission" like the LDS Church and people of all ages are expected to participate). Add content explaining that women can play a greater role in the preaching work than they can in a teaching role.
- Add content about family worship to the family life section. There should also be content about children, many sources make a point to note that JWs don't offer child-specific services like Sunday School and keep everyone together. If sourcing is available, talk about the few resources targeted to a young audience like Become Jehovah's Friend (Caleb and Sophia).
- Add content about 1975 in unfulfilled predictions. Also explain the concept of "new light" and older JW publications being destroyed if they're "old light".
- Add content about the alleged child abuse database. [8][9][10][11] The Watchtower was fined four million dollars for refusing to share their documentation on CSA.
