Ryan Jude Novelline is an Italian-American contemporary artist and fashion designer. His pieces, including the Golden Book Gown, have received attention for their "originality and innovation."

Biography

Novelline was born and raised in Massachusetts. After graduating from Lexington High School, he completed his BFA in Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design and studied liberal arts and business at Brown University.[1]

While a student at RISD, Novelline's first garment, a one of a kind GAP cardigan embellished with an original Italian poem, was recognized by TeenVogue and sold out of GAP's flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York. [2][3]

His creations are featured at Walt Disney World where he designed and illustrated various projects including the character silhouettes of the seven dwarves installed outside the Team Disney building in Orlando, FL.

His fashion has also been shown at Harvard University where one of his early couture designs, a Swarovksi-embellished gown, was modeled on the runway by Sonia Dara.[4]

Golden Book Gown

His most recognized piece, the Golden Book Gown, is constructed out of recycled and discarded Little Golden Books. It has received worldwide praise for its design and innovative use of material and according to Italian Style.com, “left everyone in awe.”[5] Press for the piece included national acknowledgement from Glamour[6] , NYMag[7], Treehugger[8], School Library Journal[9], MTV Geek[10], and Jezebel[11] and received international attention from sources including Yahoo![12], Thanh Nien[13], Cosmogirl[14], Radio Bío-Bío[15], and GIGAZINE[16]. The gown was displayed at the National Heritage Museum in 2012.[17]

The Golden Book Gown was voted the “most creative fashion design of 2011” by Ecouterre.[18]

The French Book Packager, Olo, the Paris subsidiary of Collier International, included Novelline in, Avant-Garde Fashion as one of the “100 most breathtaking fashion designers from around the world” alongside individuals such as Tom Ford, Coco Chanel, Gianni Versace, Alexander McQueen, and Marc Jacobs.[19]

The Brazilian Publishing House, Editora Moderna includes his work in an upcoming book that introduces children to the world of contemporary art.[20]
