International Conscious Movement Teachers Association (ICMTA) is an independent professional body that represents teachers of dance as an awareness-building and personal development practice and maintains professional and ethical standards in the profession.
ICMTA was founded in 2013 and is registered as a not-for-profit organisation organisation in Belgium.
ICMTA was originally founded by teachers who trained with Gabrielle Roth in 5Rhythms.[1] Since then, it has approved teacher training programmes offered by the following additional schools, in addition to 5Rhythms: Soul Motion, Movement Medicine, Open Floor, freedomDANCE and Path of Azul. These schools and their teachers and teachers-in-training are eligible for membership in the Association.
ICMTA maintains a Code of Ethics and offers mechanisms for resolving ethical issues.
The Association's decision making and operations follow the principles of sociocracy.[2]
