National Blueberry Festival
[edit]The National Blueberry Festival has been held every year during the second week of August in South Haven, Michigan since 1963. The estimated 55,000 guests can enjoy food, music, and activities for all age groups. It is one of the oldest known fruit festivals in the country and has its own hashtag #nationalblueberryfestival on Instagram. This event promotes "the education and future of agriculture in Southwest Michigan.[1]" Van Buren County, county of South Haven, is known as the world's leading producer for highbush blueberries. [2] The festival relies on it's sponsors, guests, and donations to continue every year.

Activities and Events
[edit]This event provides music, sidewalk sales, food, and other activities for people of all ages. The main activities include the parade, pie eating contest, Farm Day, and children's activities including rides. The National Blueberry 5K Run/Walk is another event done one day during the festival that people of any age can participate in and offers "scenic views of Lake Michigan, the Black River, and beautiful downtown South Haven."[3] 2022 had over 400 participants from instate and out of state complete the run/walk.[4] The app Blueberry Festival can be downloaded to have the most current information on the festival.
History
[edit]The National Blueberry festival continued it's tradition through covid but events and activities were reduced as a result.[5] Another article states that in 2014 locals were able to renew license plates, change addresses at the festival, order titles, and more with help of the Secretary of States Office. This was done at the festival through an online service.[6]
Opportunities
[edit]Opportunities to participate in the festival include being in the parade, playing live music, and volunteering which can all be applied for through their website.
