Americans for Middle East Understanding (AMEU) is a non-profit organization that promotes the appreciation of the culture, history and current events in the Middle East among Americans. AMEU was established 40 years ago by a number of American professionals who had experience of the Middle East. AMEU publishes a magazine called The Link on a bi-monthly basis[1]. It also publishes leaflets about the Middle East[2],supports educational programs.[3], sells books, donates to libraries, provides a speaker's bureau, subsidizes travel to the Middle East and provides teachers with educational material[4].

Board of Directors[edit]

The board of directors includes scholars, academics, diplomats, authors, editors, religious reprsentatives and business people including many who have direct experience of life in the Middle East.Talcot W. Seelye, former American ambassador to Syria and Tunisia, served on the board of directors[5]. AMEU's current board of directors includes former American ambassador to Greece, Zimbabwe, and Mauritius, Robert V. Keeley and former representative Paul Findley.[6]
