In this capacity, he flew missions in support of NATO, United Nations and North American Aerospace Defense Command commitments. He was deployed to both Libya and Afghanistan. [1]
Kutryk later moved on to serve as the officer in charge of fighter evaluations, responsible for conducting airborne evaluations of new technologies and systems on the CF-18. [2]
Astronaut Career

Kutryk is currently training at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas as a member of the 2017 NASA astronaut class. [1] He attributes much of his desire to become an astronaut to his grade 6 teacher, Ted Hupe. Kutryk states that Hupe told the class stories of adventures he had went on, and that lit a spark of curiosity within him that drove him to take the path to becoming an astronaut. [4]
