National Opinion (Spanish: Opinión Nacional) is a rightist Venezuelan political party, with conservative tendencies, founded in 1962.

Currently they are prohibited from participating in elections.

History[edit]

It is a political party originally of centrist tendencies founded in 1962, by the professor and journalist Amado Cornielles along with Doctor Ramón Urdaneta, the professor Ángel Otilio Tovar, the statistics licensed Vicente Pineda, the professor Olga Ramos, the high school graduate Santiago Peña, union-member Pedro Fajardo and six other people. It was began looking to capture interest of nationalist and popular sectors in order to take advantage of the disappointment with the parties Democratic Action and COPEI.

Their inspiration came from the ideology of Simón Bolívar, adapted to the realities of the time and the social betterment for workers, claims over national territories, and generally the establishment of a collective good

OPINA obtained parlementary representation in the years 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988 and 1993 in 7 consecutive periods and representation in the older Supreme Electoral Council. However, they had not managed to reach direct governing. Most of their followers were concentrated in Caracas and in the states of Miranda, Zulia, Carabobo, Anzoátegui, Portuguesa, Monagas and Mérida.

During their second to last age the party began to consider itself independent and decided not to participate in the presidential elections of the years 2000, 2006, 2012 y 2013. They historically have maintained a position of questioning forms of State conduct marked by inefficiency and corruption.
