Many Canadian-Australians have migrated from mainland Canada, as well as the United States and England, while many are descendents of these immigrants.
The second wave of Canadian Australians came in 1851 in search of gold during the Australian Gold Rush.
Introduction:
According to the 2016 Australian Census, there were 43,049 Canadian born Australians in Australia in 2016, which is an increase from 38,871 persons according to the 2011 Australian Census. Both countries are former British colonies spanning enormous, sparsely populated land masses with indigenous populations, both are federations and both are parliamentary democracies in the Westminster tradition (Collins, 2015).
