Biography[edit]

Archimandrite Grigorios had the support and cooperation of Germanos Karavangelis.[4] In the monastery he had established a boarding school for the homeless and orphaned children from the villages of Agios Nikolaos, Lithia, Stavropotamos and Vassiliada.[3] The school in the monastery operated independently of the school in the village.[5]

Archimandrite Gregory during the Macedonian Struggle, helped the Greeks Makedonomachoi as well as encouraged them. On March 15, 1904 he met with Pavlos Melas when he arrived at the Holy Monastery of Saint Nikolaos.[6] In a letter from Melas, he praises Archimandrite Gregory for his hospitality and the reception he received when he was there, to escape his persecutors. It was set on fire on the night of February 26, 1905 by order of the Bulgarian committee, by the gang of the Bulgarian komitadji Mitre the Vlach, where he invaded the Monastery with 80 others and after looting it, set fire to the monks' cells, but the Archimandrite Grigorios was in Kastoria.[7] He was once caught and imprisoned in Kastoria, but he had accomplices and was soon released. He also had friends in Athens where he raised funds with Ion Dragoumis and built the current building of the Monastery. [3]

In 2004 a monument was erected to him near the Saint Nikolaos Monastery of Korisos. Κατηγορία:Λήμματα που χρειάζονται παραπομπές
