Sabine Scheunert[edit]

Sabine Scheunert (born in Göttingen) is a German business executive and thought-leader/influencer. She is the current Vice President of Digital & IT Sales/Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars[1]. She has worked for Daimler AG since July 2016, having previously held senior positions at PSA, BMW and Hewlett-Packard.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Sabine Scheunert attended school at the Max-Planck-Gymnasium in Göttingen and studied economical mathematics at Bielefeld University from 1994 to 1995.

She completed her Master’s Degree in International Commerce in 1998 at the University of Paderborn. In 2018, Scheunert completed the Advanced Strategy Program at the Harvard Business School.

Career[edit]

Daimler AG[edit]

Scheunert joined Daimler AG in July 2016, working in her current position as Vice President of Digital & IT Sales/Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars. During her tenure she has led a number of successful technology-focused projects for the company. This includes:

  • MB developers: the public API platform by Mercedes–Benz where the company makes its services available via APIs to spur the development of pioneering business models around mobility and beyond[2].
  • Ask Mercedes: a virtual assistant, or chatbot, that employs Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence so Mercedes-Benz customers can get an answer in real time to their questions about operating their new vehicle[3].
  • The Bridge: Mercedes-Benz as a key partner to this unique Commercialization Program for startups, which acts as a bridge between the entrepreneurial community and major global markets[4].

She has been an instrumental player in enabling the Daimler AG’s digital transformation.

This has been demonstrated through the establishment of a modernized, future-proof and secure IT landscape, acceleration of the roll-out of all digital products and services, and the implementation of new working models within the organization[5].

Scheunert is credited with bringing the role of IT to the fore within Daimler AG, and establishing its digital services a state-of-the-art within the automotive industry landscape.

Previous Career Experience[edit]

Under Scheunert’s leadership as the General Manager Marketing Central and Eastern Europe for the BMW Group a number of significant contributions to projects and infrastructures were created, including the launch of the brand MINI in Europe, as well as the set-up of a new Wholesale and Retail structure within the Central Eastern European region[6].

During her time as the Director CRM Groupe, Scheunert steered the world-wide CRM division for all Groupe PSA brands, in Paris, France[7]. She successfully helped drive the French manufacturer to invest into a new “customer centric culture”, a new IT architecture in order to have a 360°-client vision, as well as new standards for a successful digital lead transformation[8].

In 2015, Scheunert was appointed Managing Director of the CITROËN Brand in China (based in Shanghai) and Vice Managing Director of DongFeng Citroën, becoming the first female CEO of an OEM in China. She was responsible for the introduction of new vehicle models, building up the dealer network and developing the local management team[9].

Thought-leadership[edit]

Sabine is an international speaker, host and LinkedIn influencer. Her topics focus primarily on digital services at Mercedes-Benz, the role of IT, technology, diversity and inclusivity, and mentorship.

She is a regular speaker on the international tech and automotive event circuit, having presented at conferences such as Web Summit[10] and MOVE London[11].

Scheunert fosters a community on LinkedIn of thousands of international followers, through her thought-leadership content and engagement. She was named as a Top Voice on LinkedIn in DACH in 2018[12].

Mentorship[edit]

Scheunert is a strong advocate for diversity in IT and technology. She is strongly committed to attracting young women to the STEM fields. She considers the promotion of women to be of central importance. She is also active as a mentor both inside and outside Daimler AG.

She runs a mentorship program for young and promising female pioneers in STEM, as well as devising and hosting a ‘women in tech’ event that runs annually[13].

Motorsport[edit]

Scheunert was a participant in the 2019 Mille Miglia, an open-road, motorsport endurance race taking place in Italy. Participation is limited to automobiles produced no later than 1957[14].
