Juan Antonio de Vera y Figueroa, first count de la Roca, (es. Juan Antonio de Vera y Figueroa Ávila y Zúñiga, Conde de la Roca), (25 april 1583 - 20 november 1658) is a spanish diplomat, historian and writer.
He contributed to the codification of the ambassador's job with the publication of his famous the perfect ambassador (El Embaxador) in 1620, translated in french in 1635.
In 1630, he is extraordinary ambassador in Savoie for 2 years, where he will négotiate the peace treaty of Cherasco.
Between 1632 and 1642, he is ambassador in Venetia with the difficult mission to garantee nutrality of the region in the Thirty Years' War which is taking place in Europe. He is using letters in order of achiving his goals and those of the monarchy of Spain. For his own safety, he will use a certain number of pseudonymes, such as Vox Populi or Zambeccari when he denounces the weakness of the pope with heresy.[1]
