From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello! I'm a lifelong Chicagoan that loves trivia, history, and reading. My Wiki user name, "GQScholar", is a moniker I coined for myself in high school to reflect my sense of style ("GQ" was a common term of respect and endearment in the Black community given to cisgender boys and men who dressed very well, particularly in business and formal wear; I always assumed it came from the famed men's magazine) and being a lifelong honors student.

Throughout my childhood and teenage years, I read encyclopedias, almanacs, and other periodicals for fun. Since Wikipedia was created, I've been an avid reader of various topics and articles on this site. Given the copy editor in me, and learning how to write rudimentary coding in high school and college, I'll edit some entries from time to time, always with credible cited sources. With my Wiki mobile app, I created many saved lists with articles that mainly relate to my life experiences, interests, and identities/roles, such as any topic related to the African Diaspora, Chicago, Islam, public figures, places I visited around the U.S. and the world, and more.

With time and for the sheer fun of it, there are two Wiki challenges I'd like to achieve someday:

  • First, regularly accessing Wiki portals in Spanish, the only language I have decent proficiency in. While I can speak some Arabic and recognize cognates in the Romance languages, I would love to learn and immerse myself in those languages and concepts as well so I can add them to my bucket list, too.
  • Second, if there is the chance to write a thorough article on any topic or even a person. Not sure on what or who but if the spirit moves me I'll set forth to make sure the world knows.

Knowledge is infinite so I look forward to enjoying the numerous contributions and being a member of this open source community, which I fully support and advocate for. To quote one of my most favorite motivating points to live by, the motto of The University of Chicago proclaims: "Crescat scientia; vita excolatur". — "Let knowledge grow from more to more; and so be human life enriched."[1]
