Scott Giles, composer

Scott Giles is a composer and conductor who has written symphonies, concerti, string quartets, two operas and many sonatas for numerous instruments as well as a host of other Classical, Jazz and ethnic works. He was director of The August Ensemble for six years.

He has PhDs in Music Composition and History as well as other degrees in Psychology, Canadian Studies, Journalism and Communications. He has two honorary PhDs from foreign universities awarded for his lecture series on music history. He is a master of the violin, viola, cello, clarinets and saxophones and the piano and teaches these as well as composition and conducting. He has been a teacher since 1984.

He has performed and recorded in London, Moscow, San Francisco and other cities throughout the globe and in the 80s did most of his performing in the Soviet Union.

Listed in Who's Who in America as significantly contributing to the development of the symphonic form. He also paints and is working on two novels.
