From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Topick is a social media website where frequent keywords called "topicks" are responded to by the community in the form of images and videos from around the web. Posts can be approved by the rest of the community with the "I Like It" button. That and the community's ability to extend popular topicks are the site's primary features, although further discussion of the posts in comments is also popular.

History[edit]

Topick Group, Inc. launched Topick.com on October 14, 2009 to be a site where users had "a chance to express themselves in a visual and imaginative way."[1] The site has garnered a very small community, but has yet to attain the widespread approval as other social networking and social media sites.

Website[edit]

The website's core function is for users to post images and video of their own creation or simply linked in from around the web, accompanied by a short description which cannot exceed 250 characters. The media must be focused on a moderator-chosen subject. Subjects vary widely, and are known on the site as "topicks".

The length of time that a topick is available as the center of the conversation is altered by users who can vote for the subject to remain for a longer or shorter period.

Users can also make suggestions for future topicks and revive popular topicks from the archives. When a topick is drawn back from the archive for continuation, it is called a re-run.

Standard tie-ins to other social media and networking sites are available (Twitter, Facebook, RSS).
