Jake Warga (born April 24, 1972) is an American radio journalist, photographer, travel writer, and contributor to various public radio programs including National Public Radio's All Things Considered and Day to Day; Public Radio International's The World, Studio 360, This American Life and the now defunct The Savvy Traveler; and American Public Media's Weekend America.

Life[edit]

Jake Warga was born Jason Reese Warga in Hollywood, CA on April 27, 1972 to Carol and Wayne Warga. Jake officially changed his name from Jason to Jake (a nickname he had used for some time) in 2002. Warga grew up primarily in Sherman Oaks, CA and attended grade school at Sherman Oaks Elementary School and graduated high school from the Landmark West School in Encino, CA (the school later changed its name to Westmark School). Warga received a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology from the University of California, Davis in 1995 and a Masters of Arts in Journalism from Kings College London in 2004.

Work[edit]

During and after college, Warga worked as an assistant cameraman, on several Hollywood films, including Witchboard 2: The Devil's Doorway (1993), Nice Guys Sleep Alone (1999), The Prophecy 3: The Ascent (2000), and Mimic 2 ((2001). He was also the cinematographer on Lineage (1997) and Sleep When You're Dead (1997)[1]. As an independent journalist, Warga has contributed a number of stories to various public radio organizations including National Public Radio, Public Radio International, and American Public Media. His stories have been broadcast throughout the world. These stories are archived on the website Hearing Voices (www.hearingvoices.com)[2]. As an independent photographer, Warga's work has been published in several mediums, most notably online in connection with his radio programs.
