Khadi Toure was born on August 14, 1991 at Boston Medical Center with Sickle Cell Disease. She has had a stroke and endured scores of visits from her Norwood home to Boston Medical Center's emergency room in her battle with sickle-cell anemia. 'Toure' was the first sickle cell patient to undergo a bone marrow transplant at St.Jude Children's Research Hospital with blood and cells salvaged from her younger brother's umbilical cord. In the rare medical procedure, she appears to be cured of the debilitating disease after receiving less than four ounces of blood harvested from the umbilical cord of her brother.
