HOLODECK architects, Marlies Breuss and Michael Ogertschnig, are a Vienna/Austria based international studio established in 1998, including a department in Berlin/Germany. With a strong focus on concept driven holistic architecture, the studio works thoroughly based on analytical processes. Designs are followed through with systematic research and applied methods, revealing hidden spatial potentials and resulting in creative and innovative statements.
HOLODECK architects have since won national and international design competitions, and have built numerous projects across different typologies, which are highlighted and honored on social networks and in the architecture world.[1]
Architectural philosophy and methodology[edit]
The studio pursuits high-quality architecture that is based on a context orientated methodology and always serves human needs. From the point of starting with the predesign phase until the creation of applicable details, each concept is developed with an innovative and experimental approach and without preconceived ideas on possible solutions.
The studio’s analytical strategies create new functional and spatial sequences using methods of dismantling collected data and assembling them in novel arrangements with astonishing qualities. Information that is being collected throughout the process includes data reflecting on surrounding landscapes, analysis of site and human needs, as well as the evaluation of suitable low-tech materials. The process remains in a constant flux, adapting its practise along the way, and maintaining the level of investigation to find an architecture that is innovative, affordable and holistic.[2][3]

Teaching[edit]
HOLODECK architects have been invited by the TU Vienna for a Visiting Professorship, for which they started a cooperation with Kasetsart University in Bangkok. Since 1996 the studio is giving lectures and leading design studios at universities, in order to share their knowledge on conceptual, holistic design and construction with the students.[21]
