Claudette Inge Groenendaal (born November 1, 1963) is a former U.S. track & field athlete who in 1985 set U. S. records in the womens 800 meter event. Her 1:58.33, set in Bern, Switzerland, ranks her currently as the 18th fastest American. At the time it was the third fastest U.S. woman, surpassed only by Mary Decker Slaney and Madeline Jackson.[1]
She competed on the women's track and field team for four years at the University of Oregon, setting many U. S. collegiate records at Oregon's famous Hayward Field. In her senior year she was NCAA Champion in the women's 800 meter and 1500 meter events. She was the 1985 and 1986 United States Champion in the 800.[2]

Throughout her running career Groenendaal has been plagued by various health issues that eventually prevented her from remaining competitive on the world-wide circuit, mainly in the summer European competition period.
Personal Life
Claudette Groenendaal currently lives in Los Angeles, California. She continues to run and is a member of Santa Monica Track Club coached by Joe Douglas.
