WebsiteZabeltitz - Stadt Großenhain

Zabeltitz is a saxon village in Germany, which belongs to Großenhain, with about 1000 inhabitants. It gained supraregional fame through its palace and park complexes from the renaissance and baroque periods.[1]

Geography[edit]

Geographical location and natural area[edit]

Zabeltitz is located about nine kilometres north of Großenhain on the Große Röder in the Großenhainer Pflege. It is about 40 kilometres north from Dresden and 130 kilometres south from Berlin.

The surrounding area of Zabeltitz is shaped by the wetland landscape of the Röderaue. The area of the original marshland is now dominated by extensive hardwood alluvial forests (alder, elm, oak, beech). In the Elligast lowlands between Nasseböhla and Zabeltitz, a large complex of closely interlinked wet meadows and fens has been preserved, which represents a high-quality habitat for numerous endangered animal and plant species and will soon be designated as a nature reserve.

In the 18th century, rock crystals, the so-called Zabeltitz pebbles or Zabeltitz diamonds, were found near Zabeltitz. Today you can hardly find them.[2]
