He has been recognized as a sufi songwriter for India’s first fusion rock band – Indian Ocean[[1]]. He started his journey in theatre with ‘Chingari’, a Delhi based theatre group where he explored the realm of theatre with Rajat kapoor, Atul kumar, and K. chandrashekhar. Sanjeev travelled extensively all over India and Europe to explore the margins and limits of theatre, fascinated by its methods and subjects. He explored puppetry and dance forms with Dadi Padamji, Company Philip Genty, Astad deboo, Daksha Seth, Devissaro and Gille Chuyen. Later Sanjeev and Atul kumar formed The Company Theatrehttp://unboxedwriters.com/20-years-of-the-company-theatre-the-memories/#.WAyFnSOLQ18 for more experimental work. Company Theatre in association with various international cultural centres executed many shows and workshops all over India and other parts of world.

As a Theatre Director Sanjeev directed superbly crafted musicals. In 1996 he directed, ‘A physician In spite of Himself’ – A Musical In collaboration with Indian Ocean and Ashvin Kumar. As a Production Designer and Actor in Theatre with ‘Chingari’ he worked on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew , Milan Kundera’s Jaques and his Master, Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett, Death Watch by Jean Genet, Baal by Bertolt Brecht, and Venugaan by Vasantdev, between 1991-1996. With The Company Theatre, Mumbai, he worked on The Chairs by Eugene ionesco and Harold Pinter’s The Lover. With the Embassy of France he worked on L’equarrissage Pour Tous by Boris Vian, Le Joueu, Carlo Gordonoi and Ubu Roi by Alfred Jerry. In 1995 he did Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf by Edward Elbee at the prithvi theatre and Devissaro’s Yagna for The Daksha Seth Dance Company.

His experience As a Translator consists of Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery and The Fables by Jean de la Fontaine -for Alliance Francaise, New Delhi, The Lover by Harold Pinter and A Physician Inspite Of Himself by Moliere for The Company Theatre, The House of Bernarda Alba by Lorca, for Chingari and The Imaginary Invalid by Moliere for Theatre Spirits, between 1996 to 2008.
