Chris Mukoko (born 25 October 1989), better known by his stage name Drahmah (previously known as Younger Drahmah)[1] is a British Rapper, Singer, Songwriter and Actor from Deptford, South East London. Considered as a ‘triple threat artist’ because of his ability to Rap, Sing and Write for other artists, he was first introduced to the UK grime scene back in 2007 at just 16 years old. ‘P2J Project - Hands in the air’ became a pivotal moment in South London's musical history where Drahmah (as Younger Drahmah) delivered one of the most memorable verses on there.
Early life
[edit]Born in what was then known as Zaire [2], Chris first arrived to London in 1992 with his father to avoid the inevitable First Congo war which started in 1996. Mukoko and his father first lived in Wimbledon South West London before moving to Lewisham Borough where they eventually settled in Deptford. With humble beginnings his family struggled with poverty and his Dad separated from his Mother juggled jobs to provide for him and his two brothers. Before moving to what would be their first home, Mukoko with his Dad and brothers moved from hostel to hostel and even sometimes sleeping in a car for shelter.
Music career
[edit]2005-07: Fatal Assasins
[edit]In the early 2000s after joining the infamous South London Grime collective Fatal Assasins alongside the likes of P Money, Little Dee, Firmer Dee and Kozzie. Around this time Drahmah began exploring his musicality by remixing songs like T-Pains I’m Sprung and Mariah Careys We Belong Together which were popular streets records before working closely with producers P2J and Slic Vic who have gone on to produce for international acts including Beyoncé, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Krept & Konan and Tinie Tempah.
2007–08: P2J Project
[edit]Drahmah was first introduced to the UK grime scene back in 2007 at just 16 years old. ‘P2J Project - Hands in the air’ became a pivotal moment in South London's musical history as well as in Grime in which he played a huge role in putting together. The video has now gone on to amass over 1 million views on Youtube.
In 2019 Krept drops Morley's Freestyle over the P2J produced instrumental.
2010–11: The Monster EP
[edit]First project released under independent label Money Never Sleeps Records and executive produced by Slic Vic.
2011–12: Glad to be back and MTV Brand New For 201
[edit]After emerging from a hiatus from music Drahmah returned briefly in 2012 with the ’Go Get It’[3] video featuring Fekky taken off his ‘Glad to be Back’ mix-tape executive produced by Slic Vic.
MTV Brand New nominee in 2011 with ‘Tonight’ which also featured on The Box and Kiss TV and opening for Professor Green and Skepta.[4]
2013–14: Lost Boy EP
[edit]In 2013 Drahmah headlined a sold out show at the world famous Jazz Cafe [5] off the back of his successful ‘Lost Boy EP’ [6] which featured fellow artists MdotE, Elektric, J.Appiah and Fiascoe Bars with production from Slic Vic, Intalekt and Ragz Originale.
2015–Present: Orphgang, Double Double and Rehearsal Room 101
[edit]Late 2014 Drahmah along with 8 other MCs and Producers formed underground music collective Orphgang, which included Kojey Radical, Tinyman, Afronaut Zu, Jay 8lue, Intalket, R-Kay, B Moni and Layback Thought. On the night of December 9th 2014 the collective headlined their first show at 93 Feet East London.[7] Which was followed by an official documentary.[8]
Fast forward to early 2020 Drahmah returns with an Afro influenced EP alongside UK Afro-beats pioneer Mista Silva which features just two singles, Mek I Go and Anointing both produced by up and coming producer Al Mac.
On October 16th 2020 Drahmah released his fourth project 'Rehearsal Room 101' which was lead by the single 'Regular'[9] premiered by Kenny Allstar on BBC 1xtra.
Personal life
[edit]Apart from being a musician Drahmah ventured into a business opportunity in 2016 and co-founded Purple Vibe, a music management company. During this time Drahmah and his co-director Chloe Sintim were able to collaborate with emerging artists such as Noname, Etta Bond, Intalekt and Jords on projects and live events. In 2017 they took the venture to LA.
