Connection Killer is a batch utility for configuring internet connections and IP addresses. Connection Killer was created for Project 2000, but when the project ended up in development hell, it was called off in Mid-2010. The P2K Group, left behind with nothing released, decided to start releasing and is still creating tools that were left with Project 2000. In the mist of this, the group released Connection Killer stating that [1] Connection Killer was released the same day of Project 2000's cancellation.
Functionality[edit]
Connection Killer features a batch interface, giving only knowledgeable users a good background on how to use it. Upon execution, Collection Killer states that it's "Executing Scripts", and takes about a 10 second halt. Then, it tests the current connection and collects ping information. Afterwards, it takes you to a root menu, in which you can select to kill the IP connection, repair it, or close the program. Some operations, mainly a repair, can take as long as 20 minutes on slower connections, and as little as 10 seconds on faster connections. Connection Killer is composed of approx. 39 lines of code, but is still far from a light weight program.
Expected Usage With Project 2000[edit]
The Connection Killer was expected to be used in a Project 2000 wizard which would allow the user to reset there IP address to a new one. The P2K group has not yet announced whether this wizard would be further developed and released for Windows operating systems.
Incompatibility[edit]
Due to the lack of an MS-DOS prompt, Connection Killer will not operate in Windows Mellenium Edition, and because of the homegroup feature in Windows 7, Connection Killer will execute but immediately shut down. Also, because Connection Killer configures internet settings, certain Antivirus programs may not allow to program to run. Overall, compatibility is slightly limited.
