Welcome to WikiProject Obama administration. Some Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of issues, personel and events related to the category:Obama Administration. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.
Goals
[edit]- Get Wikiproject fleshed out enough to be ready as a start project
- Some sections, such as Agenda section could be done as part of Presidency of Barack Obama
Scope
[edit]In particular, this WikiProject aims to coordinate activities of improving articles of high priority to understanding the Obama administration. Especially information surrounding the policy issues enumerated at [Change.gov]. There is a precedent for issues related wikiprojects, eg: Category:Society WikiProjects. The parent project would be Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Presidents. The idea is as part of a living history process- The wikiproject is focused on currency- the issues of interest to the administration, and after its expiration, the focus shifts to the historical coverage of the administration. EG JFK administration, FDR administration.

- Hemlock Martinis (talk) 21:45, 3 January 2009 (UTC) (I'll be happy to help with categorization structure. The immense amount of interest focused on this topic in a month could help us set standards for presidential administration categorization, which we could then migrate retroactively to the other presidential administrations.)
Obama admin related articles needing help
[edit]- Personel: (not just bio stuff- but their positions on policy related to the position they were named to, or being considered for
- Tom Daschle- there is very little from Tom's book on Health care. In particular his idea regarding quasi governmental agency similar to the federal reserve. Also need isbn link to his book in the refs
- Policy areas
- Energy
- 2008-11-24 Economic stimulus is looking for projects that can be built in the the 2 year timeframe. Which energy infrastructure tasks exhibit "bottom up" rather than "trickle down". In other words- which tasks would disperse money to the greatest number of US workers. EG- what good is it if laying undersea cable sends money to the offshore manufacturers of the cable, and the cable layer operator barge is also non US? What generation- projects do not require major permitting/ environmental impact/ eminent domain- cooridor fight delays? What about distributed rooftop solar with nationwide standards for net metering to make it a viable money making proposition for homeowners? That would require massive dispersed installations, that could be done by massive armies of construction contractors. Do we have the coverage on whatever articles would be affected?-J JMesserly (talk) 21:40, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
- Obama's agenda mentions establishing a Grid Modernization Commission to set the goals on the Smart grid infrastructure buildout. We will need an article on the commission when more is known about its composition, charter and membership. Some general goals can probably be lifted from the 2007 energy bill since that is the authority for the commission's creation. J JMesserly (talk) 02:09, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
- concepts and articles related to Smart grid, Unified Smart Grid and related electricity items need a lot of work. The smart grid article is not bad, but for example, there is not even a unique article on whatever the predicate concept of a smart grid is. They treat only the transmission grid sense. I am on this one. J JMesserly (talk) 21:49, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- HVDC Coverage of the controversy between proponents and oponents of a US supergrid (maybe put in super grid article).
- Grid connection -> Grid, with discussion of super grid infrastructure economic stimulus
- Electric power transmission and Electricity distribution are totally oriented to the dinosaur business models where energy goes one way. EG. directionality. There is now generation in the distribution network- and it travels up.
- Unified Smart Grid needs more work- especially regarding identification of what the common ground is between Pickens Obama and Gore. Possibly also an analysis of the potential pitfalls of legislation- who would the opponents be, what are their interests?
- SuperSmart Grid what from the Euro proposal can be learned of that could apply to an Obama grid proposal?
- Hybrid vehicle How are these incentivized in the obama proposal- coverage of opponents, interest groups, what axes are there to grind, and how does it relate to the plan to keep automakers from folding?
- Energy
Special practices
[edit]Cats on talk pages, not article page
[edit]Our marker cats if any should not intrude on the body of the actual article. General practice seems to be to use the talk page for wikiproject marking.
Articles
[edit]Project related articles can be found at (( obama agenda category page? ))
Parent
[edit](( Real wikiproject? Then you need a parent project. Are there projects on issues? Maybe that is the model to follow. We might generalize this as a US progressive issue wikiproject. hmmm- this would seem to politicize WP, maybe that is not such a good idea. J JMesserly (talk) 21:39, 20 November 2008 (UTC)))
Candidates giving pros and cons
- Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Presidents
- Pro- obvious location if named "Obama presidency or administration". Not if named current administration.
- Pro- Not continually changing focus as you'd have with "Current Administration" wikiproject, an Obama administration wikiproject would remain. EG history buffs of FDR, Kennedy might reactivate a WKP on FDR administration or JFK administration. This would be an ongoing thing- the current affairs focus shifts to a historical focus after the administration is replaced. Even trivial things like the history logs of the wikiproject- what editors felt were the important articles, and why, the controversies over coverage could become interesting primary research material for future historians.
- Cons- the wikiproject is biography oriented, not the whats and whys of policymaking.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject United States Government
- Pro: Fits if "Current administration". Currently there is coverage of US congress but not the presidency.
