Greenon Local School District is a school district in Clark County, Ohio, United States. Formerly known as "Mad River-Green Local School District", the name reflected the cooperation between Mad River and Green Townships in not just education but also police, fire, and emergency services. The current name reflects the name of Green Township and the village of Enon, which is the "seat" of Mad River Township. The name was changed to distinguish this school district from Mad River Local Schools in Montgomery County, Ohio. The school district formerly operated Enon Elementary, Indian Valley Middle School, and Greenon High School. The district has since moved to a single K-12 building on the former site of the middle school. The main office is located in Enon, Ohio, at the former elementary school.
In August 2014, Greenon High School has switched to a Jr./Sr. High School, now containing grades 7–12. Enon Elementary has switched to Pre-school to 1st grade and 2nd-6th grade to Indian Valley.
In May 16, 2016, The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said a bomb threat scribbled on a bathroom wall last week claimed there were two bombs inside Greenon High School. A comprehensive search of the building turned up no devices or explosives. There were not bombs found in campus. Greenon High School students were released early for the day.
In May 2017, a levy was passed that allows a new school to be constructed on the site of the current middle school, Indian Valley. The new school is planned to contain k-12. The current high school building will be torn down but the sports facilities will remain.
In August 2017, two Greenon High school students, David Waag and Connor Williams passed away in a car crash. The school was closed the next day for services.
In September 2017, another Greenon High School student, Kenny DePhillip, passed away unexpectedly.
In January 2021, a class of 2024 student, Liam Hobbs passed away unexpectedly.
In September 2021, Greenon opened its new K-12 campus in Enon. The old Greenon Junior/Senior High School building and Indian Valley Middle School building were demolished. The athletic complex still remains at the site of the old high school.
In October 5, 2023, Greenon administrator left a voicemail to parents that there was a potential threat made from a Springfield-Clark CTC student that made overnight. The threat was deemed not credible. One of the Greenon administrators and the school resource officer have cooperated with the student and not disciplined due to being a career tech student. The Springfield-Clark CTC administrator have disciplined the student for a suspension for 10 days and possible expulsion. *As of October 12, 2023, the student was allowed back on campus according to the superintendent.*
In December 11, 2023, multiple schools including Greenon Local School District received threats from Russia. The threats were not credible. The FBI has been investigating.
In February 2024, A long time custodian, Mike Taylor, passed away unexpectedly. On Friday, February 9, 2024, the school was closed for funeral services.
In April 2024, Greenon has earned an award for improved school report card.
In July 2024, Greenon proposed a school levy for new transportation garage, multipurpose room.
