The Kettle's Cup Game

The Kettle’s Cup Game is a men’s slow-pitch softball game, held annually, between The Hounds and The Underdogs at the Nike Base in Hamburg, NY. The winner of the game receives the Kettle’s Cup trophy. The date and time of the game is determined by the regular season schedule. The Hounds have won the cup four times (2007 as Josh’s, 2009 as Rhino’s and 2010 and 2011 as Carrubba’s). The Underdogs have won the cup once (2008 as Sorry Charlie’s).

History of The Kettle's Cup Game
In 1978, Tim Ring formed a slow-pitch softball team with his brothers and friends and joined the emerging Nike Base League in Hamburg, NY. Their sponsor was a small bar in Orchard Park, NY named Kettle's. From 1978 to 2001, the team played in 12 league championships, winning 4. In 2000, Shawn Ring and his cousin, Josh Paufler, left Kettle’s to form their own team, The Underdogs. Before folding, Kettle’s defeated The Underdogs in both regular season meetings.
After 7 seasons, the need for another expansion was looming. Josh Paufler, along with other players, broke from The Underdogs and created a new team, Josh’s Boozehounds.
A rivalry quickly formed between the two ball clubs. The first regular season meeting of The Underdogs and Josh’s Boozehounds was dubbed “The Kettle’s Cup” because of both teams’ roots in the original Kettle’s team.
