From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert A. Leger was born October 1879 near Baltimore, Maryland. Not much is known about his early life, except that he moved to Colorado in 1907. Leger founded the locally famous Furiae cult who were primarily located around the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Leger was notorious for his involvement in the disappearance of several families from south-central Colorado in 1909-1911. The disappearances were eventually linked to the Furiae cult, causing an outcry among local residents and prompting state and local officials to investigate the cult. Although never able to prove the cult's involvement with the murders, state officials forced the group to disband.

In 1912, Leger was found dead in his cabin, from apparent suicide. Upon searching his home, local authorities discovered several recently deceased persons, later determined to be members of the missing families from the previous years. The bodies were heavily emaciated and mutilated with strange symbols carved into their skin.

Throughout the 20th century, there have been several reports of strange noises and figures in and around the town of Cuchara, Colorado, where Leger's cabin was located. These reports were have never been verified, but remain a part of local Cuchara legend.
