If you use this template, please SUBST it, as I may play around with this template from time to time, and do not want to be dynamically changing the text of unknown users talk pages. Consider copying the source code of this template to a template in your own user space if you want control over the content. Please do not modify this template in this location without talking to me first. Thanks, Jerry lavoie 14:39, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

This template was placed in my user space after a well-intentioned effort by another editor to consolidate the welcome templates. Since I was dissatisfied with the resulting single template, I requested that the original welcomeg template be placed in my user space. Since then, due to requests from other users, the original template was restored in the template namespace.

However, since I reconfigured my VandalProof to use this location, and since I customized it to include a wikilink for the new users talk page, and an "edit new section" link for the talk page of the person leaving the welcome message, I decided to keep it here.

Note that this change requires different syntax for the use, as a parameter must now be specified for the user leaving the template, in order to properly format the edit new section link. In lieu of this parameter, however, the original template format will be inserted, with no link for the words "on my talk page".

Due to the handling of optional parameters by the mediawiki template message mechanism, if your username has a space in it (as mine does) you need to put an underline character (_) in the parameter in place of the space (Jerry_lavoie vs Jerry Lavoie) in order for the "subst" to work correctly.

original Template:Welcomeg was Created by ElectricEye and brought into template by Tijuana Brass

  • Usage: {{subst:Jerry lavoie/Welcomeg|YourUserName}}

Note: {{welcomeh}} is a copy of the original template that includes a section heading.
