Roots of Change is a nonprofit organization dedicated to achieving a sustainable food system in California. The organization is based in San Francisco, California.
Mission[edit]
Roots of Change (ROC) is a collaboration of stakeholder individuals and institutions working together to achieve a sustainable food system in California by the year 2030. A group of California-based foundations launched ROC in 2002 with the purpose of convening food system stakeholders, including policy makers, farmers, scientists and activists, to explore the problems facing the current food system and work towards making that system healthier and more sustainable.
Projects[edit]
Roots of Change's current projects include the following:
- Changemakers Day, at the 2008 Slow Food Nation event, was a series of over 30 panel discussions exploring the challenges and opportunities facing the movement for a good, clean, and fair food system.
- The Declaration for Healthy Food and Agriculture, endorsed by 200 national leaders of the sustainable food movement, outlines 12 principles that should frame a healthy food and agriculture policy.
- The annual fellowship program brings together a cross-section of food system leaders to develop effective strategies to move the entire California food system towards sustainability..
- The New Mainstream Food and Farming System posits a picture of the sustainable food and farming system in the year 2030.
- Building Momentum for Change: Cultivating County Ag Futures Alliances (AFA) is creating county leadership networks that connect and strengthen California-based organizations and individuals that have an interest in developing sustainable food systems.
