Anderson Ranch Arts Center[edit]

Anderson Ranch Arts Center is a nonprofit organization based in Snowmass Village, Colorado, that was founded with a vision to bring an arts and cultural center to the growing community “that was decidedly different from existing degree focused programs”.[1] To provide opportunities to anyone interested in pursuing the visual arts. Offering opportunities for “creative, intellectual and personal growth for emerging and established visual artists.”[2] It currently hosts workshops in summer and winter, artists residences in spring and fall. Anderson Ranch provides year round programs that include: ceramics, drawing and painting, furniture design and woodworking, digital fabrication, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Anderson Ranch is partnered with universities to offer higher level scholarships for aspiring artists.

History[edit]

Anderson Ranch Arts Center was founded in 1966 by ceramicist Paul Soldner with the support and influences of photographer Cherie Hiser, sculptor Peter Voulkos and woodworker Sam Maloof.[1]

1973: Center of the Hand (Paul Soldner) joins with Center of the Eye (Cherie Hiser) to form Anderson Ranch Arts Center.

1973: Anderson Ranch becomes a 501(c)3 nonprofit

Mary Martin establishes the Snowmass Arts Foundation nonprofit (later changed to Anderson Ranch Arts Foundation)

1978: the printmaking studio is established

1980: Anderson Ranch transforms into a year round arts center

1981: First visiting artist project

Summer painter/printmaker collaborative program begins

1983: First California Clay in the Rockies symposium

1984: Children’s art programs begin

1986: Winter artist residency program begins

2014: Anderson Ranch Arts Center's Scholarship/Partnership Program is established
