On May 15, 2015, a coalition of more than 60 groups of Asian American organizations filed federal complaints with the United States Department of Education and Department of Justice against Harvard University. The coalition asked for a civil-rights investigation into Harvard's alleged discriminatory admission practice against Asian-American applications.[1][2][3]

According to the filed federal complaint[4], many recent studies have indicated that Harvard University has been engaged in systematic and continuous discrimination against Asian-Americans in its very subjective “holistic” college admissions process. Asian-American applicants with almost perfect test scores, top 1 percent Grade-Point Average (GPA), academic awards and leadership positions are unjustifiably rejected by Harvard and other Ivy League Schools. The alleged discriminatory practices include: using racial stereotypes, using racially differentiated standards, and using de facto racial quota (14%-18% for Asian admission rates over the last twenty years despite that Asian-American population has more than doubled since 1993).[5]
