MonitoringForge is a web site dedicated to open source systems management and monitoring projects and is sponsored by GroundWork Open Source, Inc. Current projects include a variety of network monitoring systems, configuring management tools, application monitoring and management tools and network topology/visualization projects. It attempts to create a comprehensive index of all projects in this area and also offers collaboration tools for each project, such as wikis, forums, blogs, and source control.

MonitoringForge has been described as a "meta-forge"^[1], which usually refers to a web site that lists a subset of projects hosted at other forges. In this case, that is only partially correct. While MonitoringForge does indeed point to projects hosted on other sites, it also offers full project hosting.

MonitoringForge's most common function appears to be as an index for content related to Nagios^[2] and Nagios-related projects. However, there are also projects and HOWTO's for other open source monitoring systems, including GroundWork Monitor, Hyperic HQ, Zenoss Core, and OpenNMS.

The MonitoringForge beta launched on September 15, 2009^[3], with a full launch scheduled in mid-2010. By the end of 2009, the total project count was in excess of 2,000^[4].

Criticism[edit]

Tarus Balog, OpenNMS CEO, published a blog post slamming the site^[5], claiming it was an extension of GroundWork's marketing department.
