Zealous Fuel is an American musical group from Connecticut.
Their first incarnation formed in 1991. Musically the product of many competing interests they developed into a noisy amalgam of modern progressive metal and retro nowave. This final stable lineup wass Mike Kelly on Bass and vocals, Tanner Johnson on Guitar, Jason Beebe on guitar and Thatcher Graham on drums.
Their first two albums were released on cassette only and are extremely rare. They were very small circulations probably fewer than 500 pieces each. The first one was very DIY being clearly duplicated and assembled by hand.
The Unknown Label was their third and most-recent album, released on CD in January of 2002. It received moderate college radio airplay, charting for five weeks starting in January of 2001 peaking at #99 on the CMJ top 200 CMJ and appeared briefly even in playlists reported to the commercial radio trade magazine Friday Morning Quarterback (FMQB). The record's reviews were positive but generally standoffish noting the bands abrasive musical nature. Reviews in trade magazines in France such as Progireste were much more accepting and generally positive.
They appeared frequently at the New England day Festival "Inertia" often as one of 10-12 bands. These concerts were famed locally for their parade of oddity and the general public drunkenness of the largely underage crowd. These concerts were videotaped and portions are still aired locally. Here they played along side venerable but equally obscure acts such as the Teenbeaters, Aborticide, Endless Mike and many others.
