Make Poverty History Nigeria MPH Nigeria is an open coalition of Nigerian based organizations that work together to eradicate global poverty and assist in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG's).

It is a global alliance member of the Make Poverty History network founded in UK 2005, campaigning the eradication of Extreme Poverty by facilitating and fostering the fulfillment of the MDGs. A strategic coalition member of GCAP Nigeria campaigning locally to see a Nigeria where poverty, hunger and preventable diseases are eradicated in a sustainable way.

Overview[edit]

Make Poverty History Nigeria initially slated to be a year long awareness campaign, rapidly grew into a national anti-poverty coalition. The campaign built its initial momentum in schools before expanding outwards. The campaign was launched as a coalition at an 'Initiation Campaign and Conference' in Lagos October 2007, and was officially registered in April 2008. The campaign formation was instrumented by Joseph Peters and mobilized tens of thousands people in support of its goals, ran national awareness ad campaigns and advocated for its goals. It operates as a network of NGOs, FBOs, CBOs, CSOs for the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP), the largest anti-poverty coalition in the world.

At the 'Initiation Campaign and Conference', MPH Nigeria aligned itself to GCAP and its goals, and since then effectively operated as MDGs campaign and a development organisation with a consultative status with United Nations Millenium Campaign (UNMC). Make Poverty History Nigeria is currently studying the possibility of extending the MDGs campaign beyond 2015 based on the outcomes of the UN HLM on MDG in 2010. It is called MDGs Plus 2015 Beyond
