International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) is a non-profit residency program offering a visual arts studio program and related public programs based in Brooklyn, New York. ISCP presents public exhibitions, talks, films screenings and events in the gallery space. The residency program has hosted 1,900 artists and curators from 62 countries, including the United States. Recent alumni include artists Jesper Just, John Korner, Theaster Gates and Camille Henrot.
History
[edit]Artist Dennis Elliott founded the International Studio Program (ISP) in 1994 in partnership with the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts. The artist studios were first housed in a 9,500 square-foot space in a landmarked warehouse in TriBeCa, Lower Manhattan. A South Korean gallery sponsored the first artist. The governments of Sweden, Denmark, France, Spain, Portugal, Finland, Poland and the Asian Cultural Council joined the initiative shortly thereafter. In 1999, the organization added curatorial residencies, thus becoming the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) with the Trust for Mutual Understanding sponsoring a curator from Czech Republic. In 2001, ISCP relocate to West 39th Street in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan and in 2008, ISCP moved to East Williamsburg, Brooklyn and increased its capacity to 35 studios. ISCP’s programs are currently housed in the former Sackett-Wilhelms Lithographing and Publishing Company facilities built in 1901.
