Fu Xun (died CE 230) was a general and politician under Liu Biao and later Cao Wei during the Three Kingdoms era of Eastern China.
Birth and Career under Liu Biao[edit]
Fu Xun was born in Beidi County, Hebei Province and was the son of Fu Rui. At an early age, Xun was recruited into Liu Biao's service as an advisor and was involved in the Battle of Jiangling against Sun Jian. During his career under Liu Biao, he was appointed two ranks being Officer of the Imperial Secretariat and Clerk in the Department of the East.
When Liu Biao died in the early 3rd century, Cao Cao immediately launched a campaign south into Jing Province where he Fu Xun was employed into Cao's ranks after urging Liu Biao's successor, Liu Cong to surrender.
Service under Cao Cao[edit]
Fu Xun was greatly admired in Cao Cao's ranks and was appointed several ranks, being appointed higher positions faster than generals under Cao like Zhang Liao and Xu Huang, and even more so than Cao's own family line, which was filled with personages such as the likes of Cao Hong, Cao Ren, and Cao Zhen. He was also very skilled in naval command, which he inherited while he was a subordinate of Liu Biao; making him one of the few leaders commanding Cao Cao's navy during his massive failure at the Battle of Red Cliffs.
During his career with Cao Cao, Fu Xun along with a few other of Cao Cao's favorite vassals, urged Cao Cao to proclaim himself the Duke of Wei, and immediately, Cao Cao did. In 220, Cao Cao passed away to illness and his son Cao Pi took Cao Cao's place. Xun still remained a favorite to Cao Pi as he was to Cao Cao.
Service under Cao Wei; late career and death[edit]
Immediately after Cao Pi succeeded his father, Fu Xun and some other vassals urged Cao Pi to force the Han emperor to abdicate and establish the Cao Wei empire under Cao Cao's foundations. Without hesitation, Cao Pi did so.
After the first decade of Cao Wei's reign in the northern plains, Fu Xun became very ill, and in the year 230 CE, Fu Xun passed away. He received the sixth biggest funeral after Cao Pi's uncle and Cao Cao's cousin Cao Ren.
