From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cell: the Series is a web series by Lovable Varmint Productions that will debut in January 2010. The series follows Brian, a man who fights to stay who he is after waking up one morning to find himself imprisoned in a cell, and the newest member of the Family that brought him there. It is part of an emerging entertainment genre of content geared exclusively for online viewing.[1]

The Story[edit]

Though the plot of Cell appears fairly simple, Mark Gardner, the writer, director, and executive producer of the series, asserts that it explores some fairly dense subject matter. In an interview with Tubefilter.com, he stated, "I started writing a series about finding yourself and what it means to be an individual". [2] In the production stills that are posted on the Lovable Varmint Productions website, there appears to be three main characters [3]: Brian, played by Danny Cameron; a young woman, played by Jourdan Gibson; and a man in his 40s, played by Kevin McCarthy.

Production[edit]

Filming took place in the fall of 2009 in Austin and Smithville, Texas.[2] Because the budget for the series was tight, the entire cast and crew agreed to work for free. In fact, some of the actors were so dedicated to the production, they stayed on location over night to better understand their characters' situation.[2] Despite having a limited amount of money to work with, Gardner worked hard to ensure that Cell's production values did not reflect it's small budget, and shot all thirteen episodes on a Panasonic HPX-170A camera, using 2.40 aspect ratio to give it a cinematic quality.[2] The footage is currently being edited for the premier in January, a process that Gardener regularly on via his production blog.[4]
