Shawn-Douglas Brady is a fictional character from Days of Our Lives, an American soap opera on the NBC network. Currently portrayed by Brandon Beemer, the role was created by then-head writer Leah Laiman and introduced by then-executive producers Betty and Ken Corday, and Al Rabin in 1987.

Casting and creation[edit]

On November 10, 2015, Soap Opera Digest confirmed that Beemer would be reprising his portrayal of Shawn-Douglas in 2016, following his appearance at the soap's fiftieth celebration party.[1] In the January 4, 2016, issue of Soap Opera Digest, executive producer Ken Corday spoke on the recast between Cook and Beemer, stating, "We tried and tried and tried to make this deal with Jason,” proclaims Corday of his desire to sign the actor to a full-time contract after he agreed to return for the recent 50th anniversary celebration. “We really went head over heels because we wanted him here. Jason was very torn between being a permanent part of DAYS or expanding his career and we said he couldn’t do both." Corday also expressed that if Beemer had not been available, the character of Shawn would not have remained with the soap, stating, "We were lucky that Brandon was available or else Shawn would have left and we wouldn’t have been able to tell a Shawn/Belle/Phillip story."[2] Beemer assumed the role on January 19, 2016.

Character development[edit]

Storylines[edit]

In November 2015, Shawn-Douglas (Cook) returns to Salem before the town's bicentennial and his mother's wedding to Aiden Jennings (Daniel Cosgrove). Following the death of his father, during Thanksgiving at the Brady Pub, Shawn-Douglas is reunited with Belle (Madison) and Claire (Olivia Rose Keegan), where it is revealed that he and Belle are separated. After deciding to return to Maine, he files for divorce from Belle. Shawn-Douglas (Beemer) returns to Salem in January 2016 at Claire's urging, and remarks to Belle his desire to give their marriage another shot.
