The Battle of Robotyne is an ongoing battle in and around the previously occupied Ukrainian village of Robotyne on the Southern front of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Launched by the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation as a part of the failed[2][3][4] 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive, the Ukrainian military hoped to break through the Russian defence lines near Robotyne and several other areas in the South to sever the Russian land bridge to Crimea.[5]

Having been occupied by Russia shortly after the beginning of the war in 2022[6], Ukraine would recapture Robotyne in August 2023, though they were unable to advance much further and only managed to create a salient around the village.[7][8]

Background[edit]

Robotyne is a village located within Polohy Raion in central Zaporizhia Oblast in Ukraine. In early March 2022, during Russia's full-scale invasion of neighbouring Ukraine, Robotyne would be occupied by Russia,[6] however, the Russians were unable to advance further and the village would be located just over four kilometres from the front line at the time of the counteroffensive according to the Institute for the Study of War[9]
