Piano Concerto No. 1 (Saint-Saëns)

The Piano Concerto No. 1 in D major, Op. 17, was composed by Camille Saint-Saëns in 1858 when the composer was 23. The piece was dedicated to Marie Jaëll, a former student of his. It is the first piano concerto ever written by a major French composer.

Instrumentation

The work is scored for the solo piano and an orchestra comprising of two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, four horns, two trumpets, timpani, and a string section.

  1. Andante
  2. Andante sostenuto quasi adagio
  3. Allegro con fuoco
