Mercenario from Monteverde (about 1275 - Fermo, February 20, 1340) was an Italian tyrant.
He was perhaps illegitimate son of Fidesmido II of Monteverde[1] and was born in the second half of the 13th century.
He joined the Ghibelline party, becoming an ardent supporter. In 1318 he began his military activity, attacking various towns in the Macerata area. In 1323 he defeated the Guelphs led by Berardo II da Varano, lord of Camerino, in the battle of Osimo.
In 1331 with a coup he became lord of Fermo, which he ruled for ten years and ruled like a tyrant. Pope Benedict XII urged him several times to submit to the authority of the Church. In 1340, while riding with seven companions, he was attacked by some conspirators and killed. He was remembered by chroniclers as an "evil tyrant and enemy of the Church".
