Rochambeau is an American Based Menswear design house.
History
[edit]There seems to be no stopping Rochambeau, the young designer menswear label which has been making waves in the American fashion industry since it’s debut season in 2008. Longtime friends and business partners Joshua Cooper and Laurence Chandler formed Rochambeau (which is French for the popular game rock-paper-scissors) in 2007, fulfilling a lifelong dream of stepping into the fashion industry to share their love of design and, in particular, their similar vision for men’s fashion with the world. Emerging from a family background in the print industry, a sector closely related to the fashion industry, the guys cultivated relationships within the fashion industry taking plenty of notes along the way.
Since it's inception, Rochambeau has garnered critical acclaim and been featured in publications such as Surface, Antenna, The Examiner, YRB, Prim, The Fashionisto, OpenLab, Carbon, Obvious Magazine, Selectism, The Showt, Ones to Watch, In New York, as well as a 6 page spread for Interview Magazine featuring female supermodel Natasha Vojinovic wearing Rochambeau menswear telling the androgynous story of Jack and Jill among many others.
Rochambeau has also been selected as finalists for the Prestigious Ecco Domani award as well as the Supima Design Competition.
In February 2011, Rochambeau was chosen by the prestigious MAC & Milk to debut during New York Fashion Week with a presentation of their Fall/Winter 2011 Collection. The event was held in The Highline Room at The Standard Hotel and was well attended and reviewed by the press. Just weeks prior, Rochambeau was also selected to participate in an international fashion week in Columbia.
Their look books have also garnered critical acclaim and have been shown in galleries alongside artwork from Victor Demarchelier and Alexandra Richards as well as at the Diesel “Only the Brave” opening party.
Rochambeau retails at prestigious boutiques around the world, including OAK NYC, HARVEY NICHOLS Hong Kong, OKII-NI online, CHURCH LA, The Mondrian Hotel, FL, Kifka + Heller NYC, DAIS Boutique, London, Sid Concept, Saudia Arabia, as well as their recently launched ecommerce site (www.rochambeau.us.com).
Collections
[edit]Fall/Winter 2010
The for Autumn/ Fall 2010 was inspired by the films Blade Runner and Logan’s Run, looking at the use of rustic futurism married with decomposing elements used in the films. The fabric exploration of this collection was heavily influenced by the concept of futurism in terms of its aesthetic and various global philosophies of the future. Fabrics include a circular embossed nylon, faux fur, organic cotton jerseys, bamboo infused wool and utilized nontoxic dyes.
Spring/Summer 2011
The Spring/ Summer 2011 collection was inspired by the concept of ancient Egyptian mummification mixed with an urban vibe to create modern menswear with a classic historical feel. Rochambeau, best known for a somber color palette of black, greys , and white expanded their use of color of the collection by incorporating rich blues, golds, and reds into the designs. Also included are garments such as jackets, vests, and distressed paneled button down tops. Fabrics include sheer lame, heavy linens, and organic cotton jerseys combine which wrap, fold, and twist around the body in a bold but still wearable way.
