User:MER-C/FPC Closing Wizard
The FPC Closing Wizard, well.. um, closes featured picture candidates semi-automatically. The program is written in Java and is licensed under the GPL version 3 (except the smiley, which is cc-by-sa-3.0 non-ported). This program comes with absolutely no warranty, hence you are solely responsible for the edits you make with it.
Approval
[edit]You need to be approved by me to be able to use the wizard. To be eligible for approval, you need to close at least 20 debates, 5 or more of which were promotions. I'll be looking for ability to determine consensus and competence in closing FPCs manually. Approval requests should be posted at my talk page, with links to the debates you closed.
Current approved users list
[edit]Note: This is not the master list used by the program, adding yourself here will achieve nothing.
- me
- Jjron
How to install/use
[edit]Once you are approved, email me for a copy. Save the JAR attachment somewhere and double click on it. This starts the program.
The instructions for using the program should be fairly self-explanatory. Some things to look out for:
- Check to see whether the stuff was done correctly, for example you made a typo in the image name and the wizard spewed red links over various pages on your behalf. Copy/paste works best. Remember: garbage in, garbage out.
- Pick up the crumbs, namely update WP:FP and associated subgalleries, remove {{FPC}} from not promoted pictures and if edits were promoted replace in the mainspace appropriately.
- If the creator of the image doesn't have an account on the English Wikipedia, leave the creator row of the table blank.
If the debate is controversial, I suggest you do it manually as it is not currently possible to give a closing rationale.
Traps to look out for
[edit]These things will break the wizard and may cause various problems (which you need to go back and fix). You should check for them before running the wizard.
- Malformed nominations. The nomination must contain the string <!-- additional votes go above this line -->. If it's not there, add it.
- Underscores in the list of current noms will cause the wizard to spew badly. Get rid of them.
- There needs to be an empty line beneath the featured pictures list on Template:Announcements/New featured content, otherwise other stuff may go missing.
Technical

Known issues/shortcomings
[edit]- Delist nominations are not supported.
- Co-nominations are not supported (and probably will never be).
- No consensus/delete outcomes are not supported.
- No closing rationales.
- Doesn't cover the complete closing procedure yet.
